In brief
The Community Research Program offers various inspiring workshops and direct supervision of your research by Sr. Researchers of ArtEZ. The research and learning activities of the 8 weeks during program offer diverse and inspiring interactions, directly connected to the Chapter 5IVE: Samir Bantal & Rem Koolhaas exhibition of Het HEM. The exhibition Chapter5IVE is inspired by the architects Samir Bantal and Rem Koolhaas. All activities take place at Het HEM. At the end of your research period, you present your new artistic work (the Innovation of Praxis) in a temporary research exhibtion space in Het HEM. Go to practical information.
About the exhibition
Samir Bantal and Rem Koolhaas are the next guests of Het HEM. Since its opening in 2019, cultural centre Het HEM in Zaandam has made a name for itself with its Chapter exhibitions in which every year, a new guest is invited to develop a programme for the factory hall in Zaandam together with its own curators. After previous collaborations with fashion & lifestyle designers Edson Sabajo & Guillaume Schmidt, music composer Nicolás Jaar, stylist Maarten Spruyt and philosopher Simon(e) van Saarloos, Chapter 5IVE is developed in dialogue with the architects Samir Bantal and Rem Koolhaas. Their years of research into recent developments in rural areas form the starting point of an exhibition in which various makers reflect on our current way of life and formulate perspectives for the future.
Innovating your Art Praxis
With this research program, you are encouraged to venture off the beaten tracks. You can challenge yourself intellectually and broaden your view on the theme of the Chapter5IVE. During the 8 weeks, you will be introduced to theories, discussions, innovative practices and experimental forms of research during workshops and team meetings. Most of the activities take place on Thursday, Friday. You can continue your research in the weekends, where Het HEM offers flexible workspaces for the participants of this program.
At the end of your research period, you can present your new artistic work (the Innovation of Praxis) in a temporary research exhibtion space in Het HEM. This exhibition, planned in the first week of august, will be open to the public.
Design your own research track
This program offers you the opportunity to deepen your (artistic) research skills in a multidisciplinary environment and work as a community, with fellow research participants, the staff of ArtEZ, the curator of het HEM and the various guest invited to give workshops and (online) lectures. You will be stimulated to immerse yourself in theoretical and practice-related topics and an ongoing critical dialogue.
You will be working on your individual research assignment, but we encourage you to conduct research as part of a team. Peer to peer learning is central to the approach of this program. We are asking you to contribute to exchanging ideas and jointly looking for new insights, questions, doubts, considerations, ideas and thoughts. Het HEM will organize workshops, guestlectures and an excursion. ArtEZ provides academic literature supporting your research approach.
Your research assignment is individual and results into an essay.
